Command Sergeant Major Kenneth R. Jacoby

Command Sergeant Major Kenneth R. Jacoby is the Pennsylvania Army National Guard State Command Sergeant Major at Headquarters, Pennsylvania National Guard, Fort Indiantown Gap.  He is the senior enlisted member of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.  In this position he advises the adjutant general on enlisted matters.  His primary focus is to ensure the soldiers of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard are well informed on standards and policies and to ensure the state headquarters is responsive to the soldiers’ needs and concerns.

CSM Jacoby was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and graduated from Pennridge Area High School in Perkasie, Pa., in 1963, and attended Kutztown State University.

CSM Jacoby entered the Army in 1966 and completed basic training at Fort Benning, Ga., in June 1966; followed by Advanced Individual Training at the U.S. Army Intelligence School at Fort

Holabird, Md., where he graduated in September 1966 as a military intelligence analyst.  His first assignment following training was at Headquarters, U.S. Army Europe in Heidelburg, Germany, until March 1967, where he served as an intelligence analyst in the plans and operations branch of the intelligence section.  CSM Jacoby then was reassigned to the Republic of South Vietnam where he served on the 33rd Advisory Team, Military Assistance Command, Vietnam, BanMethuot, Republic of Vietnam, from April 1967 through April 1968.  He returned to the United States and completed his active duty at Fort Story, Va., where he served as the post intelligence sergeant until his discharge in March 1969.

CSM Jacoby joined the Pennsylvania Army National Guard in November 1973 as a personnel specialist with Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 111th Infantry in Norristown, Pa.  In March 1976 he became a full-time Guardsman as the unit administrator for Company B, 28th Aviation Battalion in Reading, Pa.  He first served militarily as the flight operations chief for the company and in 1982 became the unit’s first sergeant.  During this service, CSM Jacoby became involved in noncommissioned officer training at the Pennsylvania National Guard Military Academy, where he served additional annual trainings and weekend drills as an NCO instructor and course manager.  In 1984 he was selected as the chief instructor of the newly formed Region 1 Noncommissioned Officer Academy at Fort Indiantown Gap and entered active duty as an active National Guard soldier.  He served as the academy’s chief instructor until 1991 when he became the academy assistant commandant and first sergeant.  In October 1992, he moved to the Pennsylvania National Guard headquarters staff and served as an assistant inspector general until December 1995 when he was selected as Command Sergeant Major of the Eastern Army National Guard Aviation Training Site.  He served with Eastern AATS until October 1, 1999, when he was selected as the State Command Sergeant Major.

CSM Jacoby is a graduate of many military courses and schools including the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, Army Master Physical Fitness Course, Infantry Advanced NCO Course, Flight Operations Course, Inspector General Course, Aviation Safety Course, Senior NCO Battle Staff Course and various instructor qualifications courses.

CSM Jacoby’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (five awards), Army Commendation Medal (two awards), Army Achievement Medal (four awards), Good Conduct Medal (six awards), NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, National Defense Service Medal (two awards), Meritorious Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, Pennsylvania Meritorious Service Medal, Pennsylvania Service Medal, Pennsylvania 20 Year Service Medal with one star, General T. R. White Medal and the General T. J. Stewart Medal.

CSM Jacoby and his wife Patrice reside in Jonestown, Pa.  They have one son.
