Colonel David J. Smoker

Colonel Smoker was commissioned in 1987 through the Academy of Military Science, after receiving a master's degree from Pennsylvania State University. Following executive officer training at Kessler Air Force Base, he served as the Executive Officer in the 193rd Special Operations Squadron embarking on many worldwide operations and contingencies. He then served as the Transportation Officer and Wing Executive Officer at the 193rd Special Operations Wing, deploying to Desert Shield, Uphold Democracy, Joint Guard, and Flowing Pen. He was concurrently the Air Commander and Project Officer for the move of the 258th Air Traffic Control Squadron to Johnstown, Pennsylvania.

His service with the Pennsylvania Air National Guard included six years as the State Headquarters Executive Support Staff Officer and the Deputy Director J-2/3 of the Joint Force Headquarters of the Pennsylvania National Guard. In these positions, was heavily involved in the transition to the Joint Forces Headquarters and the development of several key total force missions incorporated by the Pennsylvania National Guard. Colonel Smoker currently serves as the Commander of the 193rd Mission Support Group of the 193rd Special Operations Wing.
