The Thompsontown Veterans Memorial is located in Haldeman Park. The project was conceived and spearheaded by C.W. Smith who wanted to honor his father, a World War II veteran. The black granite for the memorial came from Africa. The monument was dedicated in conjunction with the 250th anniversary of the town.
A decision was made to not list the names of service members that have served on the momument, but instead, anyone wishing to memorialize a particular service member can do so by personalizing a park bench in their honor. That way the monument would be a timeless memorial for future generations yet to serve.
The Thompsontown AmVets, John Register, Ed Sausman and Andy Lenig were all very supportive of the project as was the Thompsontown Town Council.
